The Day From Hell

Someone (I’m assuming from Charter) came and hooked up one of the other apartments Monday morning (July 17) – when they did, they fubar’d our internet connection by moving our apartment onto a different branch of the splitter. So I called their customer service and blah, blah, blah – they can’t fix it until Friday.

Bart stopped at their office and got them to send a tech out today – when he came by, he said that they would have to send their engineering people out to “rebalance the amplifiers” and they might get to it in the next day or 2. Meanwhile, I have no internet at home. Which also means I have no VOIP phone, so all my Packet8 calls go to my cell phone.

After Bart got home, we noticed the a/c had stopped running (heat index of 100F). We played with it for a couple of minutes, nothing happened, so we called maintenance – just before they came by, we played with the switch one more time and it kicked on. *whew*

We went to dinner at Sleder’s – got our food, ate, and were just about to check out and leave (it was getting packed, and there was a thunderstorm coming) – and the power went out. Thankfully, the bartender ran my cc before the power died, so hopefully we were covered.

On our way home, we noticed that almost everyone was out – including our apartment (no air again! argh). Power finally came back on around 8pm.

More shit (Wednesday July 19).. internet is flakily back up, but my Packet8 VOIP phone isn’t working at all now. It just keeps rebooting over and over.

Update (Monday July 31): The VOIP phone needed to be sent back to Uniden for warranty repairs. I probably won’t have it back for at least another 2 weeks.

Charter still hasn’t totally fixed our internet problems either. It just keeps going offline randomly. Not fun.

Update – We replaced the cable modem with a new one about 2 weeks ago (Aug 2). So far, so good.
