I ordered 8 CDs from BMG a couple weeks ago.. got them last week sometime.. then about a day later I got one more. I was like “wtf, I got everything I ordered..” so I opened it. It was (surprise surprise) something I didn’t order. So I hopped on their website and sent customer service a quick note saying “I didn’t order this, don’t want it”. This is what they replied:

We received your inquiry regarding D1683051 DON’T YOU FAKE IT.
We sent this product when we did not receive a reply to your
Featured Selection by the due date. The current Featured Selection
is offered in each of your regular Club mailings. We send this selection
to you automatically if we do not receive your reply by the due date
specified. Anytime you don’t want to receive the Featured Selection,
please let us know by returning your Reply Card or responding online.

Unfortunately, we are unable to stop the shipment. The order has
already been processed and is on its way to you now. Please return the
shipment as soon as possible, if you do not wish to keep it.

If you leave the package unopened and write “Refused – Return To
Sender” across the front, the shipment will be returned at our expense.

To ensure proper credit to your account, please write your account
number, name and address in the upper left corner of the package.

If the package has been opened, you may return any unopened CDs to us
at the address below.

BMG Music Service

Thanks for shopping at BMG Music Service.

Here is what I wanted to reply:

The reason I sent this inquiry is because I already received
and opened the package. I thought perhaps it was one that was
late on my most recent website order, so I opened it to find that
I did not order it.I looked through all of my most recent emails
from BMG and finally found the messages that told me this was
my “Featured Selection” – the subject line of the first email is so
long the words “Featured Selection” were cut off the end, and I
ignored it thinking it wasn’t important. Please let your newsletter
writers know that these words really need to be at the beginning
of the subject line to prevent oopses like this in the future.

This is way too long -

“Erin – You’re missing out: Get Unlimited $6.99 CDs, Plus FREE
Shipping & Handling when you buy 4 or more CDs for a
limited time! Plus don’t miss your new Featured Selection”

The followup email subject line only said this:

“Last Chance: 2 FREE CDs are waiting for you! Reply by
April 11, 2007.”
From BMG’s FAQ regarding returns:

“If the package is opened, please drop us a note or email us, and
we will forward you a return shipping label if you wish.”

Please send me a label so that I can send this back. The CD is still
wrapped in plastic.

Thank you,

~ Erin Ammons

But instead I wussed out and removed the part about the crappy email newsletter writing and just asked them to send me a label. *sigh*

Addendum: I really shouldn’t write when its so late. I saved this as a draft and forgot to publish it until today (5-11-07).
