Shit-tastic

Today was just unbelievably dumb.

I got to work a little early so I could upgrade my workstation, which I thought would be a quickish thing, but nooo. Kubuntu had other ideas. The GUI install bombed out and borked my debconf. I rebooted and X &/or KDE were borked such that I had no GUI. So I ended up spending about 45 minutes “fixing” it and re-doing the upgrade, which finally completed successfully. Except for the fact I have no sound again. Grr.

Then there was workstuff. People’s sites overloading servers, yaddayadda. Busybusybusy.

Bart called me in late morning/early afternoon to let me know some asshole busted off the antenna on his car sometime last night – likely someone from our apt complex but possibly just a passing vandal.

Then I got home and retrieved the mail, which contained our electric bill from LBWL. Which is due tomorrow. I don’t know why we’re just now getting it since the “date printed” date on it says Nov 19, and I’m assuming it came from just across town or wherever LBWL gets them printed. The envelope also was not sealed at all. Not making me happy. I paid it online just now, hopefully that’s good enough.

Looking for a new apartment.

So I decided last night that while I like the size of this apartment and the location, and the price – the security, neighbors, (lack of) maintenance, and a ton of other things, bugs me enough about it to make me want to move when our lease comes up at the end of Feb.

We pretty much have three choices:

  • Stay here another year
  • Find an apartment in/near Lansing
  • Find an apartment in/near Grand Rapids

If we move to GR, Consumers will move us, so we won’t have that expense. I kind of want to stay near Lansing though. *sigh*

Stupid stuff.

I ordered 8 CDs from BMG a couple weeks ago.. got them last week sometime.. then about a day later I got one more. I was like “wtf, I got everything I ordered..” so I opened it. It was (surprise surprise) something I didn’t order. So I hopped on their website and sent customer service a quick note saying “I didn’t order this, don’t want it”. This is what they replied:

We received your inquiry regarding D1683051 DON’T YOU FAKE IT.

Here is what I wanted to reply:

The reason I sent this inquiry is because I already received
and opened the package. I thought perhaps it was one that was
late on my most recent website order, so I opened it to find that
I did not order it.I looked through all of my most recent emails
from BMG and finally found the messages that told me this was
my “Featured Selection” – the subject line of the first email is so
long the words “Featured Selection” were cut off the end, and I
ignored it thinking it wasn’t important. Please let your newsletter
writers know that these words really need to be at the beginning
of the subject line to prevent oopses like this in the future.

This is way too long -

“Erin – You’re missing out: Get Unlimited $6.99 CDs, Plus FREE
Shipping & Handling when you buy 4 or more CDs for a
limited time! Plus don’t miss your new Featured Selection”

The followup email subject line only said this:

“Last Chance: 2 FREE CDs are waiting for you! Reply by
April 11, 2007.”
From BMG’s FAQ regarding returns:

“If the package is opened, please drop us a note or email us, and
we will forward you a return shipping label if you wish.”

Please send me a label so that I can send this back. The CD is still
wrapped in plastic.

Thank you,

~ Erin Ammons

But instead I wussed out and removed the part about the crappy email newsletter writing and just asked them to send me a label. *sigh*

Addendum: I really shouldn’t write when its so late. I saved this as a draft and forgot to publish it until today (5-11-07).

Laundry Angst Update

Remember the stuff that was in the washers? Yeah, it was still there the next morning, so I just emptied one washer and piled it into the other one. Then I did my one load of laundry I had time to do, throwing someone’s stuff from one dryer onto the table.

Then today I needed to do two loads. Thankfully there was nothing in either washer, but the top dryer had the same clothes that were in the washers on Tuesday morning in it, and it was cold, indicating that it had been off quite awhile. WTF? I pulled the stuff out and threw it on the table, and put my loads into the dryers. Then when I went to retrieve them, I ran into the owner of the laundry. I didn’t say anything to her, she was too busy talking on her cell phone anyway.
